I recently came across this beneficial tool to use with my clients called “The Feeling Wheel” by Dr Gloria Wilcox. I think it is incredibly useful to help us to explain our emotions or feelings more clearly rather than sticking to familiar categories such as happy, sad, mad or scared. The Feelings Wheel shown below works in reverse. By tracing back from the outside of the wheel (noting what you are feeling) follow to the centre of the wheel and identify the core feeling. Parents, why not print this out and use it to open up a conversation with your kids about how they are feeling and identify what might be the root of their emotion or feelings.
