In-person counselling

What to expect in your therapy session

Sessions usually last 50 minutes and the time between sessions is decided after completion of the initial session. Please note that EMDR sessions are generally longer.

In the first session, Kate typically gathers information about what brings you to therapy, your concerns, what’s been going on in your life and any symptoms and significant experience. Kate may want to learn about your childhood, education, work history, current relationships, short and long-term goals.

Opening up can be hard,  particularly to someone you’ve never met before but most clients report feeling quite comfortable in doing so. However if you do not feel ready to talk about something difficult at the time  that’s OK but know that your thoughts and feelings will help Kate understand you and how to help you in managing your problems and concerns.

Kate does not see couples for counselling but is happy to refer you to a psychologist who specialises in couples counselling.

The Australian Psychological Society recommends a fee of $267 for sessions up to 60 min however  I am happy to charge patients a fee of $200.00 for the initial consultation and then $180 thereafter. For EMDR consultations 90-minute processing sessions the fee is $220 and a Medicare rebate is available.

If you are experiencing psychological concerns such as anxiety or depression, you may qualify for a Medicare rebate of $89.65 per session + an out of pocket fee of $90.35. You will need to visit your GP  or Psychiatrist prior to your first session and ask for a referral to see me via a mental health care plan.

Medicare Rebates can be claimed directly following your appointment via Medicare’s EasyClaim. Please bring your Medicare and debit cards with you to your appointment to participate.

Private Health Funds

Many healthcare funds offer rebates for psychological services – check with your fund for details. In most cases, private health rebates can be claimed on-site via our HICAPS facility. Unfortunately, you cannot use your private health insurance in conjunction when claiming a Medicare rebate.

Workcover and other Rehabilitation/Compensation Agencies

I am very happy to work with these agencies.

Veterans Affairs, and Serving Military

I am registered to work with DVA and serving military and enjoy working with these clients. With an interest in clients suffering PTSD and Trauma I utilise CBT, EMDR and ACT in my treatment strategies.

Cancellation policy

When appointments are made, this time is reserved especially for YOU the Client. Therefore I  require 48 hours notice and the following cancellation policy is in place to allow us to offer the allocated time to another person who may be on a waiting list for that appointment.

A $50 fee will be charged for cancellation with less than 48 hours notice.

A $100 fee will be charged for cancellation with less than 24 hours notice.

The FULL FEE will be charged for an appointment that has been missed with no notice (non-attendance).

I understand that sometimes you may be unable to keep an appointment because of sudden illness or an unexpected personal emergency. If this happens to you, please contact me as soon as possible to explain the situation.  You may call my office or email me. Thank-you for your consideration.
